Just Life...

Oh boy!! Does this scene look familiar to anyone but me. Let me set this up for you. I had an appointment this morning and then some errands to run. You know how it is when you are trying to get out of the house by a certain time. With yourself and three kids. Run here, run there...Lincoln brush your teeth, Carson pick up your toys...somebody put the babies bink back in his mouth...I shout all this with my toothbrush hanging out of my mouth and running around half dressed. I pick up the house the best I can, but in my hurry to get out the door somethings got left behind. We get home, late afternoon and my little mess turns into one big mess. Kinda like a bomb went off in my front room. The bigger boys were playing "restaurant", you know what it is. That really fun game where they pull out all of your dishes and bowls, as well as all of their play food and a few tables and have it. Its a fun game, especially when mom is the only one who picks it up. So we have that thrown across my floor. The babies bumbo where he sat watching his brothers. The wipes are still out from changing Drake's diaper. My purse, and the new purchases I made are still sitting there, waiting to find a home. A load of laundry that hasn't made it downstairs yet. And I could go on and on. And heck that was just my front room, the rest of the house didn't look much better. So I did what any mom would do, rolled my eyes, changed into my comfy yoga pants, opened up a can of coke and began to unwind my mess.

And an hour later....we are back to this. All is good. However, it got me thinking. Thinking about how grateful I am for that little mess. The little signs and indications that this isn't just my home, or the roof over my head. No siree....

its a reminder that it belongs to these two as well,

oh yeah, and this little guy too. Toothless grin and all.

My oh my, how grateful I am for the little reminders of their existence. The little messes that remind me that my life is so much bigger than just me. Even after days like today where my Carsey-boy got his toe smashed in a door at Carl's Jr, and not 2 minutes later Lincoln spilled a giant Coke all over the floor. It was lovely. Yes, as moms we all have moments in our day that are a little messy, a little embarrassing, unflattering and just down right unpleasant. However, they are few and far in between. The good moments completely outweigh the bad. Like the way Carson wrapped his skinny little 6 year old legs around me after his injury, and held on so tight. The way Lincoln dips the same fry in ketchup over and over and licks it off. Or the way I looked down at Drake in his carseat, and the minutes our eyes connected those little legs started pumping and demanding my attention. Oh, those are the moments that just about kill me.

I am grateful for every little smile that lights up their faces, for every little flicker of happiness I see in their eyes, for every little breath they take. I am grateful. I am grateful to be a mama. And to witness something so miraculous as motherhood, every day of my life. I am grateful for the front row seat I have of watching these little lives unfold.

Yep, I love my boys.

Oh my heavens, I sure do love those boys.

Oh Teri, thank you! I needed this post! Yesterday I was swamped with homework, so I just let the kids have free range of whatever. They took every toy we own out of the toy room/family room and spread them all over the front room. I should have taken a picture. I found the good thing was making them help clean it up last night. Kaylee was so excited to see the finished product of a clean house! So fun! Thanks!

I totally loved this, every minute of it. Some times I feel like my house is never clean and really it isn't. Your boys always look so cute.
