Carson had his class preschool pictures today (hence the bright green shirt), which got me thinking about things. First of all, hello March. I can't believe his little school year is almost up. A couple of more months and summer will be here. Carson (and me) have loved his year with Miss Katie. I just love preschool. Sure it costs a pretty penny, I cringe writing that check out each month. But it is so worth it. It is such a great environment for him and is giving him such a great jumpstart on learning.
At the beginning of each month he comes home with his little class calendar. I then grab my planner and write down all the important dates...such as field trips, when we are in charge of snack, book orders, class parties that kind of thing. Each day has a theme and she highlights that in the calendar.
Every day he comes home with a little project that matches the days theme. Of course, I save all of these. I am sure the day will come that I don't keep every handwritten "Carson" or every little number worksheet. However, that day has not arrived yet. For now they got in a special little folder that I will add to his keepsake box. That box is filling up fast.
At the beginning of each month we also get a new homework page. Miss Katie picks 5 areas for the kids to work on throughout the month, such as counting to 50, letters R, S, and T, patterns, colors, etc. You work with your child throughout the month on all of these different areas and if you feel like your child has mastered that concept then you have them color in the picture that corresponds. At the end of the month they turn their homework in for a prize. We are pretty dedicated in making sure Carson does his homework each night. Every night after dinner, we pick a concept and work on it. Cars is at the age where he still absolutely LOVES this. Lincoln always get a pen and paper and sits next to us pretending to do his "homework".
Last week, I went in and met with his teacher for a parent/teacher confrence. At the first of the year they started doing the end of the year testing. They tested their numbers (recognizing and counting), letters (upper and lower case), shapes and colors. Carson did perfect on his shapes and colors, great on his letters (out of 52 upper and lower letters Carson knew 42), and great on his counting (can count to 50 with one small hiccup in the middle). I was pleased with this. Miss Katie said he exceeds what he needs to know to enter Kindergarten, and that he will be more than ready. She said you can tell that he is one of the oldest, academically and socially. Yay, makes me feel good about our decision in holding him back.
As this little school year wraps up, it gets us that much closer to Kindergarten. Just got his registration packet in the mail and next week we have the Kindergarten Roundup. Where we go to the Elementary school to see the classrooms and have a little meeting. I have mixed feelings about this. The thought of him out there, in the real world, with older kids, every single day scares me to death. Its hard to let go, its hard turning my little 5 year old over to someone else and trusting them to take care of him, its hard hoping that you are raising him with enough self confidence and belief in himself to make it out there. Yuck, I hate the thought of all of that. However, I am also so excited for him to begin this little adventure. To start school, make new friends, find his own way...he will be just fine.
Love this goofy, silly boy of mine....and am so incredibly proud of him!

He will be so unbelivably ready for Kindergarten. The top in his class, you would die at what some kids in Lance's class still do not know. Some are still struggling with knowing their alpahabet, it kills me when I help with their fluency folders. You can tell which parents work with thier kids and which ones don't.
What's the matter with me that I don't keep hardly anything of Lance's. I am terrible mother from here on out I am going to be more sentimental and start keeping stuff. I honestly don't know what's wrong with me....
He is such a sweet little guy. What a proud mommy moment, sounds like he is doin amazing!
I'm so impressed with how you have kept up on your posts since you have had Drake. It is so fun to see everything you have been up to. I'm also excited for you to be coming back to work! It just hasn't been the same without you.
You are so good to keep all his artwork and stuff! I throw some much away. We hang the "special" pieces in the garage, and then after a while that goes in the trash to make room for new special things.
He is such a cute kid. I am sure he will do wonderfully in kindergarten. We are going to have Hannah do one more year of preschool before she starts kinder. Here in CA she misses the cut off date by a couple months, and she could start, but she would graduate from hs at a really young age and then her and Claire would wind up being 3 yrs apart in school instead of 2. So, hopefully we made the right decision with that.
Hope things are well at home with three kiddos now!!
Also, please don't feel like a loser after peeking in my fridge!! That's just what it looks like right now. Now always. ;)
I"m so proud of him...warms my heart just looking at his pictures and thinking all that is ahead of him. He will do and be just great.
I have finally said okay the pre-school folder is enormous it is time to only save the special stuff. It is overtaking this little folder in the corner of the kitchen. I got annoyed with it and let go of most of it. It is hard to get rid of it but I soon realized Gehrig will never care about it as much as I do. I think most everythign is priceless. Carson is one smart boy. I am too glad I made the decision I did with Gehrig. It isn't for everyone but just happen to be the right thing for our kiddo's. Gehrig is way excited for Kindergarten now. I don't think a year ago he would have said the same thing. Way to go Carson you smart boy.
Carson is so cute, I love the green on him. I am sad that preschool is coming to an end. Ashton starts Kindergarten next year also. And I have kept everything of Jax and Ash's, I have boxes for each of them, I can't part with any of it right now. Its weird!
