Relief Society Broadcast

One of my favorite weekends of the year is approaching. General Conference Weekend...I love it. Which of course means the Relief Society Broadcast was this past Saturday night for us ladies.

My mom and sisters and I and the sweet Granny girl all got together for the broadcast and dinner. And Drake. I know it helps Thiago out when I agree to take him. That way he can take the big boys and do something fun, rather than being tied down by a baby. Luckily Drake is an absolute joy on outings so I don't mind bringing him with.

He was as good as gold during the broadcast, just sat there playing with all of Gran's bling. She had on some fun jewelery pieces and didn't mind sharing them with Drake. After we went to the Olive Garden which was wonderful as always.

The messages were absolutely wonderful, especially President Uchtdorf. I absolutely love him. He has such an amazing presence about him. He just radiates joy and acceptance and obedience and so many other things. He is truly special and it was such a beautiful talk he gave.

He spoke about how as women we have such a tendency to strive for perfection. We compare ourselves to others and constantly feel as if we are not measuring up. We are too hard on ourselves. He made a very interesting analogy to Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory. I guess it has been awhile since I have seen this and my memory is a little sketchy, but he spoke of the golden tickets in the chocolate bars. He said that at first, the people were just happy to be enjoying a chocolate bar, a simple yet wonderful treat. However, then Willie Wonka announces that their will be a few golden tickets hidden in some of the candy bars. Everyone became so consumed with finding the golden tickets and what they would gain from them that they forget to appreciate the candy bar. They failed to remember the simple pleasure of eating the milk chocolate.

He compares this to our lives. We sometimes become so consumed in the final picture and what we think that will look like, "the golden ticket", we want so badly to have that huge family, or the great job, or the perfect home that we stop finding joy in the simple day to day things. The simple pleasures of life.

This is something I have not been able to quit thinking about. The simple pleasures. They may seem so small and insignifigant but yet in the grand scheme of things, they truly are what really matters. They are what our lives are made of, what makes us tick each day, what we smile about and laugh about. The simple pleasures.

Lame, I know..but I started to think about my blog. To me, this is what my blog is. A journal of my family's simple pleasures. I do believe that I try hard to look for the little things worth smiling about. I am sure to some people my posts on food, and decorations, and my kids qoutes, and flowers and all of those other things seem kind of silly and like a waste of time. However, to me they take me back to those moments. I am a detail oriented person, I feel through my senses. I love the way I can look at a photograph and all of the sudden I am back there in that moment reliving it. Sometimes blogging can feel like a chore, sometimes I feel like I am the only one out there still doing it, I feel like there are other things I should be spending my time on. However, then I pull up my blog and start scrolling back and our little life just pops out at me. I am back in those moments with my kids and my husband and I am reliving those precious little moments that make up our story. I laugh through some posts, some make me cry, some make me sad or scared cause I remember what I wasn't saying through the lines, the things I held back. Either way it is our life, and our story and I am so grateful to my diligence of keeping it up.

Anyways, I was thinking about this post and decided to snap a few pictures today of my simple pleasures. The little moments that made my heart feel happy today.

Carsey boy and his afterschool snack. I love this time of the day. We get home and settle down at the kitchen table with a snack for him and Lincoln and we talk about his day. He tells me who his new buddy is, which playground they got to play on (the sand one or the woodchips), what letter and number they are on, etc.... I love to watch is little eyes sparkle and come alive as he gets to the good stuff.

I loved walking in to my home and smelling the warm aroma of our dinner cooking away in the crock pot. Something so comforting and homey about the smell of a good meal.

Things were just a little to quiet on the Lincoln home front, so I went to investigate. Found him quietly tucked away in Drake's closet playing with a few toys. Oh so quietly. Those moments are few and far in between with my firecracker, it was a sweet sight to see.

Freshly washed sheets that linger with that lavender breeze scent...my happy place at the end of the day.

A sweet baby boy who is feeling kinda crummy. That nasty cold is getting the better of him and he is a drippy little mess. Everytime I scooped him up today this is the reaction I got. His little body just molded against my shoulder. All snuggled in against the crook of my neck, I would tip my head into his and smell that baby fine smell, kiss those silky little cheeks. Nothing like cuddling up a little love, the best feeling on earth. (excuse my hair, straight out of the shower and into that pony tail where it air dried. Not pretty...then again that's also life, right?)

Yep, thats life. Don't forget to enjoy the candy bar people, quit searching for those golden tickets and enjoy the candy bar that is right there in front of you.

So great.....so so great.
I loved this so much. I am too consumed lately with the golden ticket, keep thinking when we finally get here or when this happens then I will be set. His talk was inspired for sure, it was so beautiful and makes me so excited for the coming weekend. Actually I am excited for the weekend for two reasons, think we should listen to conference on our drive down cause remember we won't have any kids for 24 hours! But then I guess I am not enjoying my chocolate if I am so anxious to be kid less for a day huh?

Anyways perfect post, thanks for it, and only you can look that cute with wet hair and no makeup. Only you....
